Trabzon is one of the biggest cities in Black Sea Region. Rize, Giresun, Gümüşhane and Bayburt are neighborhood cities of Trabzon. Trabzon’s total area is 4.685 km2 and according to 2008 data, Trabzon’s population is 765.127.
Trabzon port is the most important of all the ports on the Black Sea, situated as it is right on the north-south and east-west trade axis. Trabzon has continued to preserve its geopolitical and eco-strategic position throughout history and become one of the main ports of call on the historic Silk Road as well.
Trabzon also possesses significance with its natural and historical background. Many mosques, monasteries and churches in the city are the places that should be seen. Besides this; alternative tourism is also possible with the city’s natural beauties and alternative tourism activities; such as trekking, climbing, camping and high plateau festivals.
Trabzon’s manufacturing industry is agro-based. In Trabzon, where there are a number of tea and hazelnut-processing facilities, the manufacture of cement, building materials, medical products, metal and glass products, together with items made of copper, silver and gold are carried out. Apart from the above there are fish canning factories where fish meal is also produced.
